I usually have Dolphin set as my default browser but sometimes I accidentally start using Googles browser. MY question is why it does not have an "exit" function? Many times I load a URL from an email. Sometimes I go through a few webpages after that. Well, the only way I can get back directly to my email is by using the back button. I have to back through all of the webpages just to get back to the email. If we could exit then we'd go right back to the email, as Dolphin will do.

Yes, I could press the home key and then relaunch the email reader but this is kind of pain.

I'm guessing Google is adhering to their thought that no app really needs to shut down. Still, this would make it easy to get back right to the spot you were at before launching the browser.

Android tries to anticipate your most often used apps and keeps them in memory, so that the next time you need it, it starts up faster. Normally, if you view a web page from another app, you usually back out right away instead of viewing other pages. In your case, long tapping home and then switching to your mail app is probably the fastest.

I'm not familiar with Dolphin. Is there an actual exit button on the web page you are viewing? Is going from Dolphin back to your mail app faster than a long tap on home plus a tap on your mail app?

I use Opera Mobile and they do have an exit button. However, to exit, I have to tap the menu button and then tap exit. It's slightly faster than long tapping on home and then tapping on my mail app. At least with Opera Mobile, an exit button only makes it slightly faster.

OP, you always have the option of opening the screen that allows you to view your open browser "tabs" and close it/them that way out. It'll save you the trouble of backing out screen by screen. As stuntman suggests, you also have the option of pressing the home key and holding it down to jump to any of the last several apps you were in.

Stuntman: Yes, Dolphin has a window pop up when you hold down the back key, that allows you to exit, and kill your browser history and cache while you're at it.

...you could also set Dolphin as default.
