Stock Text Messaging App is Missing!

Lurker
hello everyone! I am new to this website and had a question about a new used phone that I had just gotten today. So long story short, last night I got super pissed and threw my sprint Motorola photon at the wall, causing it to first turn off. We all thought it was broken until it magically turned back on to reveal an almost dead battery. Being as pissed as I was I had put it aside and not charged it. Came back later to charge and it was dead. But the battery was low so I thought whatever. Tried to charge it and it wouldn't budge. Dead. Broken. So today my boyfriend caught news that a friend of a friend was selling a used HTC EVO 4G so we went to pick it up then went to sprint to have it activated. While activating, I explained the story to the sales guy and he popped a new battery in my old one and it worked fine. Problem is I have to order a battery online and thought id try the EVO in the meantime. maybe ill like it more and sell the photon? So anyways, I got the EVO activated and linked my Google account and everything. When I was trying to set up my message settings, I realised there was no stock messaging app at all. When I went into contacts and clicked "send message" in the contacts menu it wouldn't do anything. It's vanished! Everything else seems good though. Just seems to be way less stock apps than my photon came with but I'm ok with that. I just wannna text! I even had several people try texting me and I wont get any of them. I did another factory reset and it still didn't appear. I asked the guy if it was ever rooted and he said no. But who knows. Can someone help me with my problem? I'm at witts end. This is so annoying! Oh and by the way I am running Android 2.3.3 OS.

You might want to check in the Eco forums, or their root section. It may not be rooted *currently*,but that doesn't mean that it was never rooted. You mention that there are other stock apps missing, which really has me suspecting the "root access" wasn't always as it has been told to you. As it is, it's not unheard of for ROMs to come stripped of the typically included Google apps. You may be able to load them on, or you may have to flash another ROM. Rebooting won't help at this point.
