Stop applications from downloading

Ok, so i have this LG Optimus and i dont have unlimited download from internet on it, so is there any way to change some settings to the applications only download when the phone is connected to WiFi? Or just only let them download when i make them?

are you talking about facebook and google contacts syncing up that kind of thing?
menu>settings>accounts&sync>[uncheck]autosync
also just turn off your data connection until you turn the wifi on. i know there's better ways of doing it than doing it manually, i think it's using locale or something, but in the end it still works.

Or... if you have root access: install droidwall (droidwall - Project Hosting on Google Code). Using this, you can tell which apps are allowed wifi and/or 3G and which are not.
