Stop Cheating the Android Market!

When you see an application listed as FREE you expect it to be FREE, right? So did we. Little did we know that when you download applications like “Fast Food Calorie Calculator” its sole purpose in life is to direct you to the MobiHand website so you can PURCHASE the application for $9.99! Great, just what [...]

No big deal, any app that comes to the market that you have to pay for, someone will develop something like it OR BETTER for free, then post it on their site loaded with ads that pay $3 per click ... and all is well.

Oh and those apps that they charge for .... they wind up cracked on piratebay.

It's a win win either way.

They only things you're really going to have to pay for is subscription based stuff that you need constant updates/connect to (think MMO's)

and really high power applications that are worth enough to warent shutting down people who pirate. :p

But I agree that these not "free" aplications have all the same tact and quality that the "you're already a winner!" / "meet sexy singles in your area!" scams have.

I don't think people are mad that they have to pay, I think they are mad that they are being baited to download software.

However, upon reading desriptions, I was able to tell that there was a cost involved with some of the apps. I will not pay for an app on my phone unless I know it has been out for a while (personally). I don't want to take the chance of getting ripped of for an app that doesn't work so well.

We all knew it wouldn't be free forever, I'm just suprised it happened so fast. haha.

i think google need to do something about this~~fast~~this is not the only one~~they should put some restrictions like apple did to Appstore~
Well I doubt google would do this, they are not the power hogs like Apple. Well they are ... but it came naturally through capitalism, not by forcing people to add a battery only at the apple store to upsell.

It would be a disaster for Google to get involved with others trying to make money when they are the kings of it.

Let developers develop free or for charge ... it's doesn't matter .... who cares. I've had Windows Mobile and Palm for many many years and hardly have paid for a single "paid" application.

SHUT UP and let them do whatever they want. It's no big deal. You guys are only making it worst than it has to be.

I agree.

Exactly.

Well that was rude. People are allowed to express distaste for being tricked.

~they should put some restrictions like apple did to Appstore~

Woa on that statement!!
I think the system will take care of itself. With the ratings you can see the reviews and after a couple people see that its bogus.. problem solved.
We need to be very aware that the main reason most of us bought the android os phone was the openness of the entire platform. To start asking Tmo and Google (they do read, and belong to, these forums) to start controlling is NOT the message we want to give them.

so all the apps need to be paid for????
No. There will always be free apps. Some will be paid apps, though. I believe the group behind Locale said that future versions might be subject to a cost.

That being said, what's to stop other people from building a similar app for "the betterment of Android kind?"

well, at least I just checked the market and "Fast Food Calorie Calculator" now says demo edition on it's title before you download it.

This is all part of what I like best about the Android philosophy.

It's open.

Get it?

And while there is an obvious downside to that fact the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. So just like you would think twice before installing just any application from the internet on your PC the same rules should apply to the phone.

While I don't expect to see an app like the Iphone "I Am Rich" here I do fully expect to see a few that are blatant rip offs. When that happens I'll just do what I do anywhere else and NOT BUY IT.

wow.. very short tempered. I think tho, there is a section called "demo" on the android market. it should be put there.. not in the free section.

I know this will sound strange but having a "Pay for it" market and having low stars on your application will really weed out some developers but personally I think that sucks.

Why you ask????

Well, I am sure this is a first attempt for most of these people and who's to say their second or third attempt at coding Android won't be "The best thing on earth'!!!!

I would hate to discourage someone expecially when they are going it for free;).

The same for a paid application. What if their second go around really hoses???

I would assume we will see alot more "demo"s in the future, maybe that last a few weeks and if you want it buy it type of thing, I hope???

its becausae the Android market hasn't gave any developer any options yet.

by 2009, (next yeaR) Android market gonna give developers ABLE to list their own prices so basically NOT everything in the market going to be FREE! <- yep.

so as of now, you will hear that there are demos or some crap for FREE but, by then its going to be mostly all paid apps i bet -_- OH NO!

Once you buy a program make sure you use it. Even if its worth 5 bucks. If the diet program works for you then maybe you shoud buy it. Or perhaps find a free version thats a little different. It's all about choice. Buying apps are good. I used to have a Palm treo and I bought half of all my apps. I spent about $100 worth of apps. Some say free but it ends up being demo. No worries, if I really like it I will buy it.

that's total bait and switch, and they should be banned for such. If it's a demo, label it as such.

Its not bait and switch - its an outright lie and fraud.

Bait and switch is when you are promised one thing and are coerced to get something else at a higher price. What this developer is going is called internet fraud.

They should be arrested and have their license to speak revoked and then kicked in the shin.

:)

Its not about being power hungry, its about getting what people are asking for. Google/Tmo should AT LEAST be checking to see if the applications are what they say.. and if they work. Some of theses apps dont even function. Makes you think what they are really meant for. Sounds like a scam :)
