Stop prepaid VM plan and restart months later

Is is possible to purchase the Samsung Intercept and prepay VM for a month or two and then stop for a few months and then prepay again for a few more months? If its possible are you issued a new phone number each time or can you retain the one you had during a previous prepaid period?

You can use the prepaid cards to buy/pay for however many months you want and just not renew until you feel like it. Buy the card, apply it to your account and voila. Rinse and repeat. I believe if your account is inactive for 90(?) days, you'll have to get a new #.
