Stop receiving pub messages

Well-Known Member
I have turned off Push messages and Cell broadcast (CB), but I am still receiving commercial pub messages (spam) from my own IP and shops. I can't add them to spam numbers because when I try I get the error message Invalid phone number. They must not have a phone number and use one of the turned off services above or something else. What setting can I use?

How can I stop these undesirable messages for good, please?

Are these regular notifications or pop-ups? If the former, pull down the notification bar and long press the notice to see which app generated the ad and then uninstall it.

They arrive just like normal messages on the stock messages app. But they do not have a phone number, so there is no phone number to block.
They are not ads from apps. They have to come through Push messages or Cell broadcast (CB),
both from the messages stock app settings, but I have them turned off. What is the right setting to stop receiving them is it not turning them off? The problem is I am not sure of how to use those settings.

Do you have the Paid (premium) version of the App? If it's free version - pop up ads is their revenue.

Sorry, it is not ads from applications. They are SMS messages, as I described yesterday, but they do not have a phone number, so there is no phone number to block. Please see my post #5 above. Also, I use AdAway, so very seldom I get those ads from apps.

Have you tried any of these suggestions?
Thank you for your link. I read the whole article, but it does not seem to add any more information.

I use the stock messages app of I9505. I has about all the same settings as mentioned on your link, and maybe more (Add to spam phrases).
The problem, as I told you before, is that theses messages are not coming from any phone number, they just do not have one, and if I long press on one of the conversations to show the context menu and then click on Add to spam numbers, and then click on OK I receive the error message Invalid phone number. There is no other possibility to add a sender to spammers.

Therefore, I believe these messages can only be received through Push messages or Cell broadcast (CB). Can you, please, look into these settings on the Galaxy stock messages app, and tell me how to adjust them, so I stop receiving these messages?
One of the senders is not my phone service provider, my my IP (I have different ones). Others are shops os which I have cards and to have them I had to give my phone number (again, these messages come without a phone number).

If I have not explained well enough, please tell me what I missed.

This may be the answer you seek. On your phone > Messages > Menu > Settings > Push messages on > Tap on Green Button top right of screen > this switches Push OFF. Cheers Neil.

Yes, I think your last post may answer my problem. The thing is that After a new flash installation I restarted receiving those ads that I cannot block because they do not have phone number, as said. I have tried with different settings but without result because I forgot how I had it before, and I do not know exactly what the mean in each position. Now I will need a few days yo confirm how it works because the ads are not coming every day, sometimes come many, other tines none.

Please have a look at the description of those kind of messages that I have mentioned.
Push messages
Cell broadcast (CB)
I found all this above, but obviously not how to stop the ads because the Samsung messages app does not allow to block a sender without a phone number and I was going crazy changing settings uselessly. Thank you Neil.

I've learned as well while researching your problem. My wife was getting a message about 400 Remotes being available every time the screen opened, probably what you were receiving so I stopped the Push on and will monitor her phone to see what effect there is. Neil.

It is very good when we know we can always learn. Btw, there is an AdAway.apk from f-droid.org that block apps ads on the phone pulled from the net. It works with a hosts file. I have it, so this sort of ads are not my case.

True, that is a very good app, but for the moment I am satisfied with the one I use and mentioned to you, from F-droid. To get automatic updates it must be installed on the root; Otherwise it can be updated by hand. It is so efficient that Google removed it from its store!

It is not exactly that sort of ads from installed apps. I do not have them because O use AdAway.apk to stop them. It is commercial spam text messages, and I have received again. They do not come with a phone number to block, and I have both push messages and cell broadcast turned off. What else can I do to stop this?

How to block text message from unknown sender?
If you wish to block text message from contacts you haven't added to your Contacts app, you can do so by following the step below:
  1. Open Messaging app.
  2. Tap the Menu key then select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Spam message settings section.
  4. Tick the box next to Spam settings to enable block text message feature.
  5. Tick the box next to Block unknown senders.

You probably have Spam Filter ON and this will enable check to Block unknown senders. Have you done this? Neil.

Yes, I already have that settings and use the Spam filter with the comm words they use more often. Not difficult because it is commercial spam. The names of the shops, for example, are always there. The last message of yesterday was catched directly to the spam box. Only one.

Usually, when a normal message is opened, there is an empty text field under to reply, and we can touch the menu below the screen and it opens. However, with this sort of messages there is no text field and the menu does not open. It is crazy! I am talking about the Samsung stock messages I use, almost the same as on your screenshot.

MalwareBytes does not find any problem. Regarding what I wrote yesterday it can't be a virus. Have you read it?

These messages come from shops of which I have cards, which have my phone number, as well as from my IP; even if the last one is not my mobile phone provider it does have its number. These messages are not coming from anywhere else, just as I said before, so they will not be the work of any selective malware.

I can't add them to spam numbers because they do not have one. I added their frequent usual words to Add to spam phrases and blocked unknown senders. Both Push messages and Cell broadcast are turned off. What I believe is that there must be a way to stop them, other than what I have used in settings. I am sure they are using a different way to send their spam messages, which I ignore. There is no other way.

Thanks for the effort...

If you wish to unsubscribe from the messaging - I think your only option is to officially contact the Trading Firms that you have dealings with and who have your details from your credit cards etc. and formally request that they stop sending you the unwanted messages.
My wife quite often doesn't know how many spam adverts we get from shops she has purchased goods. I delete them and many times unsubscribe from the shops list. This is on our comps and the same principle should apply to cell phones.
