Stopping apps and data use..

Evening All,

I started this thread with a question about exitting apps and finding them still running with task manager. I understand from other threads that the forum suggested that this is not a problem, and is the way the OS is meant to work.

However, I have an app (or maybe two) that I suspect are using 3G data when I've exited them. I have on in particular (called PlaneFinder) that used 55Mb of data the other day. I was only actually running it for a few minutes, so my suspicion is that it kept going. I exited using the 'back' arrow at the bottom of the screen (on my Desire HD, next to 'Menu').

Is this conceivable? Possibly a badly written app? Its not the most reliable app in the world, has to be forced to stop fairly often..

Cheers,
Al.

yeah exiting apps doesnt always mean closing them, and thats ok. If it still uses data then its a poorly coded app. You have two choices, get rid of it and use a different app, or put up with it!

Thanks for the info :-) in this case I'm going to put up with it as its a useful app, just need to remember to kill it when I'm done..
Cheers,
Al

It may have a setting for how often it looks for the planes or how often it updates that information for you, et cetera.

It doesn't have any settings like that, but it does have its own exit option from the menu, so I'll try using that and see if it behaves better. Thanks for the hint - new to Android so I keep forgetting to try the menu button in apps :-)

This is one of the few cases where I would recommend a Task Killer.

Note that I normally don't recommend them.

However, for poorly coded apps, sometimes it is helpful to have a TK that will automatically kill it (in case you forget).

Yeah, I've got Android Task Manager which I use to kill it, just got to resist the temptation to kill other apps! Coming from a windows background, having stopped apps still running makes me nervous :-)
