Help Stopping certain folders from showing in gallery

I want to stop certain photos from showing in my gallery. I've done a bit of googling about this and have found that I need to create a file called '.nomedia' and place that in the folder. Then force the gallery to rescan (such as by turning the phone off and then back on.)

I have done this by creating an empty file with Polaris Office and then renaming it using the files browser. However, it has not had the desired affect. Can anyone see something that I am doing wrong?

Check the permissions on the .nomedia file. On my i9100 running GB KI3, the permission on all .nomedia files is rwxrwxr-x.

Either rename the file starting with a (.) period, which will hide it from the scan or just download and use QuickPic as mentioned above.

I feel QuickPic is much better than the stock app.

that all you need to do is put a . at the front of the name of the folder you wish to 'hide'. (i.e. call the folder ".hidetheseimages" rather than just "hidetheseimages").

But won't that make it disappear from the folder view too? I'll try it when I've got a spare five minutes, but if my thinking is correct I'll need to connect it to my laptop to 'unhide' that folder.

An easy way for un-rooted phones to exclude selected items from media scan and gallery, is as follows:-

1. Download and install OI File Manager, Free from the Play Store:-

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...anager&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd

2. Open OI File Manager > Menu > Settings > Exclude from media scan (check)

3. Navigate to the file, or file items, that you do not wish to display.

4. Select Menu > Exclude from media scan. Reboot phone.

Your file or item will now not be shown and should you wish to see it in future just navigate to it and open it using OI File Manager.

If, in Gallery, there are thumbnails still being displayed, You will need to navigate to the thumbnails folder using OI File Manager:-

/mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache and delete the cache file.

Do not worry about deleting this cache file as it will rebuild itself, minus the hidden files, at the next boot up.

there is a much easier way. by default there are already a few hidden folders in your file manager. you can view them by pressing the menu key, then selecting show hidden files. just put the photos that you want to hide in there and they won't be displayed in the gallery.

Yeah what the guy above just said should do the trick-create a folder called .volumestatus then move your pics into here and then just re hide the files, your folder should not display!
