Storage/Memory

I need help on storage of my device. My SGS2 stores large apps on my 2gb internal memory. Almost full now. I have not installed any SD card yet thinking that the internal 11+gb internal usb memory was enough but it wont allow me to move to the internal usb memory.

My phone is not yet rooted. If that helps in analyzing.

I tried apps like apps2sd but it wont work moving the apps from internal mem(2gb) to intrnal usb memory(11+gb).

Please help..

The USB storage is for your use for things like videos, music etc. Big games place their data here as well. But normally you cannot transfer apps from the 2GB memory space to the 11.5GB USB storage space.

Alright.. Kinda clear now about the vids and music but big apps¿ I have a 150+mb app(game) that stored itself on the internal mem(2gb). I guess I gotta consider it small. Lols

If I install an sd card can I now transfer apps to SD even without rooting?

IF you mean big apps like gameloft, then the game data will be in the 11.5GB USB storage. Its in the gameloft folder. It will treat big apps that way usually.

However, there are some apps that are fully installed on the 2GB space. You can move with Move2SD. What this does is move the major part of the data, say 80% - 90% to the external microSD. Take Angry Birds for example. 20MB size will be in the 2GB internal memory. Move it and 18MB goes to microSD and left 2MB in the internal memory. For Gameloft games, only about 10MB is placed in that internal memory. You can still move2SD for that if you want but it will move 8MB. The rest of the 500MB will be in the USB storage.

That is how it would be treated without root.

Now, if you want to move the 500MB to the external microSD, that would be a different story entirely. I heard with root, you can bind the microSD and USB storage space and move them. Its what people are doing for the SGS3 since that does not have the move2SD option. But I don't think that's what you want.

Cheers
