Help Strange Battery Drain on S2

Hi Guys

My S2 runs Android 4.1.1, unrooted.

I used to get a solid 12-14 hour battery life from the phone, then one day, IT happened. I was browsing the web and listening to music at the same time, and the battery began to drop really quickly. I thought this was just heavy use, so no alarms. Yet since that day, the phone drains very quickly, even on standby, and even with really light usage I can just about make 8 hours now.

First I thought my battery was toast. So I bought a new one. No joy.

Second, I went for a factory reset and only installed necessary apps. No real improvement.

Now, I've made an interesting observation. My commute is about 45 minutes each day, and if the phone is at 100% when I leave home, it drops to 92% by the time I arrive if I don't use it AT ALL on the trip. However, when I play music all the way on the trip, it still only drops to 92%. This is consistent over a few weeks of observing.

So, while I'm no expert, what I'm thinking is that, somehow, the music app (I use the TouchWiz app btw) has gone crazy and that the phone is essentially always playing music (even though there's no sound being produced), since turning the app on doesn't affect my new (horrid) battery life, if that makes sense?

Has anyone ever heard of this problem, or have any advice?

If the advice involves rooting I can do that, since I'm due an upgrade soon anyway, but I'd like to keep my S2 going; it's a lovely phone.

Thanks guys:)

Hi there, AirSlab. :)

Have you tried doing a 'force stop' on TouchWiz?

You can try lowering the brightness or putting it on auto. When you are on are commute do you turn your WiFi off and only use your data when necessary. Rebooting your phone will probably not help as mine is the same. I rebooted and my battery dropped to 3% from 13%. All these things I mentioned are big battery drainers
