Strange issue w/ physical keyboard

Hi all,

I've noticed that when I'm typing on the physical keyboard on my D4, if I try to type either a question mark or an explanation point, the last word of that sentence is automatically switched to start with a capital letter. What's happening is that, to type a ! or a ?, I need to tap the shift key first. By hitting the shift key, the system automatically capitalizes the first letter of the word I just typed by showing it as the default replacement word. This means that when I then hit either the ! or the ? symbol, the system inserts the "corrected" word -- ie, the capitalized word.

Oddly, it won't do the same thing with any other symbol that you need to reach with the shift key. So, for example, if I type a word and hit shift, that word will again be capitalized but if I then follow with another symbol like ( the system won't replace the word with the capitalized word and instead will just add the symbol (.

The simple work around is that I just type a space after typing the last word of a sentence and then hit shift and ! or ?, but that's a bit of an annoyance.

Well, anyway, if someone can confirm that things work this way with their D4, I'd very much appreciate it. I assume my D4 isn't suffering a malfunction and that's just the way it is designed to work. More importantly, if someone knows how to stop this from happening, I'd very much appreciate that as well.

Thanks,

Will

My Droid 3 has done all sorts of strange things similar with the keyboard. Like sometimes when I end a sentence with a punctuation, it puts the . or ! or whatever at the beginning of a sentence, or if I try to capitalize a word mid-sentence, it starts that letter all the way back at the begginning of a text.

It improved with the last system upgrade, however long ago that was, but still gives me issues. So, it looks like even the Droid 4 has not completely fixed this.

Actually, I figured out why my D4 is doing this. It's because I use SwiftKey as my default virtual keyboard. When I disable it, this strange, "capitalize the first letter of the last word when followed by a shift-?" phenomenon doesn't happen. I'm surprised that SwiftKey has any impact on the system when using the physical keyboard, but it does for some reason.

I plan on emailing the programmers of SwiftKey about this....
