Strange problem Android browser when using mobile internet

Since doing a factory reset on my HTC Aria (non-rooted, running Android 2.2) I am having a strange problem with the standard browser.

When I am on wi-fi, it works fine. When I am on mobile internet (via Dodo/Optus) my other browser (Opera) works fine, but the standard browser won't download any pages. I get the very start of the green progress bar in the address bar, doesn't get any further, and eventually the page times out.

I have power-cycled the phone, with the battery out, turned mobile internet off, then back on, cycled switched to GSM only, then back to GSM/WCDMA auto. No joy so far.

Anyone have any ideas?
