Strange: two voices in Google Maps

Since a couple of days there is something strange with Google Maps. I used to have a rather pleasant female voice when navigating. Since a few days I have two voices: the old one and a new one, a rather shrill female voice.

Usually I hear the new voice when navigating, but sometimes the old voice comes back for 1 or 2 sentences.

I have already checked the TTS settings: my language is properly selected and the installed voice is the new shrill voice.

Who knows what is going on and what can I do about it? I'd rather have the old voice back.

Google Text-to-Speech had an update just over a week ago, perhaps that has something to do with it although the update description seemed pretty benign.
You could try going into the app settings for TTS and select Uninstall Updates, and see if that fixes it.

I guess Google has to test their sw a bit better before they release it...
