Help strange usb/camera problems

Today, I unplugged my phone from charging on my computer. The battery meter still said it was charging, so I pulled the battery. Then, when trying to turn it back on, all that showed up was an empty battery bar with the rectangles in the circle formation. So, I plugged it in again and it finally turned on. Now, when connected to my pc, it says 'usb device not recognized, usb device has malfunctioned' etc..so I unplugged it again. Now it has the usb connected thing in the top left corner of the phone, even though it's not connected to anything. Even stranger, when I try to take a picture with my camera, it goes to the "usb connected" screen and asks me if I want to connect via usb, then the phone spazzes out, and force closes the camera. Any help would be appreciated.

phone: mesmerize
carrier: uscellular

What happens when you plug it into the regular wall charger that came with it.

I have had something similar happen when I plugged mine into my m-cylce to charge, the phone said "usb connected". It did charge but I wondered if it would have taken any phone calls in that condition. Needless to say I didn't leave it that way very long.

Sounds like to me that you need to take it to a tech center and have it wiped and reloaded.
Unless someone else has a better idea.

well i've done a factory reset twice now and nothing has worked. i was told to clean the battery connectors and the power cord plug in area but i don't know how i'd go about either.

edit: and now it keeps 'usb connecting' over and over, without a cord even being plugged in. it's damn near impossible to even do anything on my phone now.

You're describing issues that sound like a physical malfunction of the phone. A factory reset won't fix that. Scott_ is right, take it to a tech center.
