Since most of the discussion on this matter died last August, I'd like to ask how this affects everyone else and if any work around exists.
What is known about this bug:
-Streaming audio quality in Pandora and a few other apps went from good to poor for any device with 2.2.
-All devices are effected, but you likely can't hear the difference through the phone speaker alone.
-This issue was reported immediately after 2.2's release (on the Nexus One first?)
-Sometime in August, the code.google report and Pandora's FAQ section indicated that a fix had been made, but that it was up to manufacturers/carriers to apply the fix (through or an OS update or otherwise).
-2.2.1 did not include this fix
Are there any ways of fixing this? I have rooted before and my device was pretty unstable. I have a much newer refurbished phone now though and I'm willing to try it again, however, I would really prefer a non root solution. Also, as long as the build is based on froyo, won't it have these problems anyway? If you force the 'stagefight' change, don't you make some other tradeoff?
Thank you for your input.
