Stripped for running

Hi, I've taken up distance running and I need an Android phone with good battery life, so I need a recommendation for a suitable phone avaiable in UK. Here's what I need it to do:-

Play music from a playlist, to keep me from getting bored.
Run the Mapmyrun mobile app
Have GPS running
Have wi-fi so I can manually save runs to the Mapmyrun web site
Make calls in an emergency situation.
Rooted or not, it must be reliable.

I'm quite happy to take a good basic droid phone with decent battery life and root it, or whatever it takes to achieve the result. I've no experience with this kind of thing, but I've been around computers & stuff for decades and I'm keen to learn.

I'll be using a solar charger, so a recommendation for one of those would be appreciated also.

Thanks

The term "distance running" around here generally means "miles" as in 10K, half-marathon, or marathon. This is a few hours out.

Are you talking about point-to-point all day running?

Simply put ... how long are you talking about being away from a power outlet?

i use a rooted htc desire hd, with a custom jellybean rom for the sole use of using it just for running.

Furthest I run is 8 miles maximum. I don't run with my music playing, but i use endomondo sports app, and have used google navigation at the same time to hear directions for when i run in areas i dont know very well where im staying for work etc.

If I use 3g and gps when i use navigation and endomondo, battery is 85%. When I just use gps for endomondo and turn off 3g, battery is 90% after 8miles of running.

This is with a pretty old phone, single core, from 2010, and it works fine for what i need it for so maybe have a look at that or something similar. Or a nexus 4, if you're in the market for a phone as well. Cheap for how much phone you get for your money, plus not too big to have strapped to your arm for running.

Sorry, been off the air for a couple of days.

I'll be away from a power outlet for 7 days, but will have a solar charger. Don't know how good these things are though.

My guess is that I'll need to somehow have only the absolute minimum of stuff running on the phone. Is there a 'droid lite that can be loaded?

Thanks
