Struggling between Eve, Dream and Magic. Please help!

I lost my BB phone and need to replace it. I wanted an Iphone but after borrowing my coworker's Dream I am definitely sticking with an android phone. My choices are Dream, Magic and Eve.

I was first definitely set on the EVE for the Divx, 3.5mm jack and the FM radio but after looking at the models in the store, I'm starting to reconsider. The phone seems very flimsy when opening the keyboard (maybe it was just the model), the middle button I'm still confused about, is it like the BB trackpad or just a Enter Button? The Home and Esc buttons next to it seem like a simply pass over would trigger them, do they have any 'press in' to them, was it just the model?

I definitely wanted the slide out keyboard (another reason for the Eve) but my co-worker mentioned some firmware or OS upgrade limitations which bothers me, something about not being able to go to android 2.1 or something on the Dream but being able to do it on the Magic. Can someone clarify this?

If anyone can help me with some directions here, I'd be forever grateful.

(Unrelated but I made a typo when registering, can I change my name in usercp? I can't find it)

The Eve is a very slick phone, however as of this moment LG has not yet confirmed if/when it will be updated beyond 1.5. LG and Rogers both report to be "in talks" about the issue.

I have a Magic, and I love it, however the recent "mandatory" 911BugFix for the Magic has cause some new issues (see this thread). Rogers has cut off our Data connection until we update, however even those who have done the update report not getting their data back. The Magic is supposed to be updated later this year to 2.1. The Dream is getting nothing.

You can read more about the problems with Android and Rogers in my blog. It is the first link in my signature.

I'd say getting a Magic is the best for now as it will be the only device to get to 2.x. The Dream and Eve will most likely stay at 1.5. Or simply wait for the X10 to arrive (probably late Feb). I would wait for the X10.

Also, at this point Sony Ericsson will only promise that the X10 is capable of "evolving" to _2.0_ in time (what ever that means) but would not respond to my request for confirmation that the _Rogers_ X10 would get it.

They also said that _2.1_ for the X10 was "a bit beyond them" at the moment.

Out of accuracy your comment should be corrected/clarified. Some users have had issues with their data after the upgrade, others (myself included) have not.

Did you update your phone's firmware? I'm talking about your Dream's.

I personally loved my dream, but with all the issues and my dream not working well after patch... i switched to bb 9000. don't have it yet but... i figure by the time my 3 year contract is up Android will be all worked out and rocking. Looking forward to android in the future..... but i will not have a contract then and will never have one again... totally out right purchases........ good luck in your decision, you need to make informed choice, just don't be pushed into or rushed into deciding
