Hi, I successfully rooted my KF HD 8.9 with instructions found at androidroot.org
But am now stuck in fastboot mode (displayed on screen). I did have twrp installed and got the blue logo, but not anymore.
I tried KF First Aid, under the option
I don't know if this will help but... to get KF First Aide to work I had to delete all the drivers and reinstall them. I had some drivers from my Phone installed that kept everything from working like it should. I went through control panel>uninstall program and found some I didn't even know I had.
My Kindle would show up in device mang just as you described but KFFA just wasn't working right but after deleting drivers... reinstalling one and only one from their site... then turning off the Kindle and plugging it in (it turned itself on) I was able to get KFFA to work.
