I changed the kernel for my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 to the ncg version, because I was told that was what I'd have to do to downgrade my OS to 4.4.2; my OS is currently up-to-date. After using Odin to flash it to the ncg kernel, I can't start my phone. It will only go to recovery mode, and I can't figure out how to fix it.

Could someone please help me? I just want to be able to use my phone at this point. I don't even care about downgrading the OS anymore.

Try removing the battery for a few minutes, reinsert it. Then hold volume down, home and power. If you get the warning screen then you should be able to boot into download mode. if you can boot into download mode you can fix the device. Unless you had the latest OTA, build number OE1. If you had OE1 and did this. As OE1 blocks the ability to roll back to 4.4.2, 4.4.4 . You will have to wait for a fix as there are several people with the same issue.

You have a custom recovery correct? restore a backup you should have made before flashing a kernel, the booting straight into recovery is a kernel issue
