Root Stuck on bootloop...

So I rooted and flashed the stock ROM on my replacement phone and I wanted to flash a new kernel. I went and bought 4EXT and tried to flash the Anthrax kernel from 4EXT. I checked Wipe dalvik, wipe data/factory reset, format system, and format cache and then it was flashing until it rebooted and got stuck on the "HTC" boot screen.

Does anyone know how to get out of a HTC EVO V 4G bootloop? And does anyone know how it is caused? Did I do something wrong with the 4EXT?

I'm tempted to take the battery out and put it back in...

I just took out the battery, put it back in and hold the power and volume up button and reflashed the VM Shooter ROM. Woah, good thing I didn't delete it from my sd card.

But I still don't know why the Anthrax kernel doesn't flash. An error message comes up in 4EXT when I try to flash it, does that mean I need S-OFF?

4EXT is a great recovery that I use myself, however using the smart flash option doesn't always work when flashing kernels. I personally feel that for all the time that you end up wasting when it fails and you end up bootlooping because it borked your boot.img would be much better spent by gaining s-off and being able to flash anything that you want without drama. Just my. 02 on the subject.

You are probably right overbyter. I too am S-On and would like to do S-Off. I don't have the balls. Im afraid of messing my phone up. 4ext has been working for me. But I am riddled with thoughts day and night of wanting to do S-off

It really isn't hard or scary :)
For the wire trick use a bent paperclip with tape so you can hold the paperclip and it will work. I am not sure what exactly happens in the wire trick procedure but it shouldn't do damage to your phone I did it like 6 times got it in the 7th. :D

What's happening exactly is that you're not shorting anything out, all that you're doing is taking a pull down resistor low by grounding it to the sd card frame. This then places the phone into an engineering boot. The only thing that can go wrong is if you don't get the timing right you'll bork your sd card, so just throw in a spare 2 gig card and don't worry about it.
