Root Stuck on ClockworkMod recovery screen

Hi , I hope there is a simple solution and I am missing something.
I have used Unrevoked v3.32 to install CWM on my Desire and everything seemed to go smoothly. When I boot the phone into recovery mode I can move up and down with the volume keys but when I try and select a function the display just turns off. Pressing the power key turns it back on instantly and I have to remove the battery and then the phone boots up normally.
Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly you need to use the trackpad to make selections in clockwork mod recovery

Thanks Paul, that did the trick. Now just got to find why it is stuck in a Cyanogen loop when booting
OK that's fixed and now running beautifully, thanks again

Nandroid backup, don't wipe, reflash the rom.

Also, requesting this gets moved to the correct forum.
