Help Stuck on HTC screen after data cleared and recovery

Hi all,

I have had an HTC hero for a while now and have developed a real love/hate relationship with which many of you can empathize.

Well it's recently all come down to this. The beast is dead. Although it powers on, it won't get past the HTC screen. I can get into HBOOT and do a recovery as well as clear all data with "home and power" boot. However, it seems that no combination of these methods does any good.

I even tried flashing the rom with a new HERCIMG.zip via RUU on HBOOT as I read elsewhere in the forums. For one, I don't seem to have the option in HBOOT - hitting the action does nothing in HBOOT. It loads from the zip and then displays: <volup> for fastboot mode, <back> for simlock, and <home> for recovery just as if there was no SD card in there.

Any last words? Hints on Resurrection?

I'm not an authority on this sort of thing, but saw something similar recently... if you choose fastboot and then run the ruu, I think you should get somewhere. From what I understand, fastboot lets the ruu do it's thing.

Were you branded/non-branded? If you are branded and try running a non-branded ruu, then I think that it won't work (as I think you'd need a goldcard, which you'd need to turn the phone on for).

You should be able to download HTC Sync and the OEM Android 2.1 with HTC Sense RUU executable from here: HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC Hero? (Sprint) - Downloads .

Just install HTC Sync first and then install and run the OEM Android 2.1 with HTC Sense RUU executable file. If it does not work the first time, try running it again.
