Help Stuck with illegibale System Fonts (ROOTED S4)

Hi Folks,

Just joined the forums yesterday. I was enjoying tinkering with my S4, I rooted it and had some fun with it, installing cool apps and such like.

I downloaded titanium back up, and proceeded to remove (what I thought was) bloatware..... (yes...schoolboy error, I know) :( I didn't remove any crucial system files though, I aint that gung-ho. But what I did do, was remove Flip-Fonts (I didn't know that the little "f-f logo in the circle" was flipfonts.

Anyway, this was still ok. I downloaded a font app from the play store, and installed a new font. I deliberately chose a font that was annoying to look at, and barely legible, simply so I could instantly see that the install had worked. So I rebooted my S4, and when it booted up, I noticed immediately that it had worked. Thus I knew the install proocess was working, and then I chose the font I wanted to install. BRILLIANT!!!

Then I noticed the issue. My system fonts were ok, however, when I was surfing the web, it was still using the annoying, barley legible font I initially installed as a tester. Gmail was using it, yahoo, chrome. I tried to uninstall and change the font. I could change it, but again, the fonts in gmsail etc were the annoying one that I didn't want. I could see no way to change this. So I did a factory restore this morning, through the normal channels (setting/accounts/back-up and reset) thinking this would reset.

When I booted the phone back up, when I was guided through the initial phone set up tutorial (time, accounts, device name etc ect) I noticed that the system font was set as the annoying one I don't want. So I downloaded iFont, and changed it. Again, it changed the font to the one I wanted, but again, when I went online it was still that (by this time) INCREDIBLY ANNOYING FONT!!!:mad:
So I went in to SuperSU and chose to unroot the device. I then went through the root process I initially used (link to you tube below)

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S4 IV Easily! - YouTube

When I initially tried the root process again, when I put it in to download mode, it immediately skipped past the screen, and turned off. I manged to tinker about with cables & stuff, and did get it in to download mode. I re-rooted using the above method. Again, when I booted up, the initial set-up wizard that guides you through had that IRRITATING, PESKY, SUICIDAL FONT!!! :dontknow: what to do :dontknow::questionmark::questionmark:

So my good android friends, I require your assistance. How do I get round this pesky issue? I was thinking I would have to roll back to the factory ROM? Or is there some simple setting I am missing :stupido::stupido2: This is really really getting to me now. I have been tikering with the fone, not too in depth may I add, just installnig root apps and such. I was willing to venture in to the custom ROM's avenue sometime soon.....although after this little episode, I may think twice.

My phone now has nothing on it what so ever. I've rooted it. There are no apps, but i've taken a note of them. I did not get round to making a nandroid back (yes...another schoolboy error  ) up as I didn't have a large enough SD Card.

So can any of you lovely genius people :D point me in the right direction of what I need to do. I tried to upload some images, but they were too large. I hope this is enough information, and that you can help me. I KNOW there is a simple solution to this, its just that I don't know it.haha.

I'll see if the lin to ropbox works, so as you can see the images

To link a dropbox photo, you have to click the "link" icon on it to receive one. You've just linked to the homepage :)

As for your problem, your best bet is just to reinstall the factory ROM at this point. Everything you've deleted won't come back with a factory reset. This only clears user data from the phone, while you've deleted system apps. You'll have to get Triangle Away, your stock ROM (updated if available) and Odin v3.x. Sammobile.com has most of the S4 ROMs, all you have to do is create a quick reg and search using your model number.

Ok Darnell0216.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry about the dropbox link, its academic now anyway. So installing the factory ROM ( for the S4 this is called Triangle Away??) is the process just the same as thats which I did to root my phone?

How come though that when I rooted it again, and used the CF-Auto-Root-*****.tar.md5 kernel, it didn't amend the issue? I thought it would? Well evidently I was wrong.lol.

So reinstall of the factory ROM is the only way here? Any chance you could post me a link for a quick tutorial? Just dont want EVERYTHING to go tits up now. :(

Thanks again m8

- If you have the space to spare, it's always best to just Disable/Freeze apps instead of physically removing them from the phone. Once a system app is removed, it's gone for good if you do not have the original file to put it back.

- Re-rooting only alters it's exploit again to get root access. It does not install/uninstall/restore anything from the system except the super user app (if included).

- The S4 keeps count of every time you install something via Odin. After a certain amount of installs, your phone will display a warning about having done too many installs. Triangle away resets this counter.

Without knowing your exact model I can't give you a direct link, but XDA has unroot/return to stock tutorials for pretty much all variations of the phone.

In About Device:

Model Number: GT I9505

Android Version: 4.2.2

Baseband Version: I9505XXUDMH8

kernel Version: 3.4.0-1220396 Then below it says se.infra @0210-03 1
(or something like that. I can hardly read it because of that annoying font)

Build Number: JDQ39.19505XXUDMH8

Is this any help to you? Or me as the case may be!! :)

And i'm in the UK. my carrier/service provider is O2

Kn ew there would be a simple solution I was missing.

I reinstalled the " font installer for android ** ROOT ** " App. This reset the font back to the original after I chose a new one.

Thanks for the help anyway!!

Grats! Just keep in mind that at some point in the future, you will still have to reinstall the stock ROM to update to 4.3 when it comes out for your model this month. :)

Darnell, do I HAVE to do the update? I am quite content as to the way the system is configured now?

Speaking of which then, (knowing the version of my phone ^^^ as above ^^^) can you possibly point me in the direction of a you tube tutorial, or XDA link as to the steps to take to do this then?

Any help would be much appreciated, as there seems to be tutorials for the S4 GT19505, but PLENTY of warnings that it must be for the correct model? I just don't wana delve in to the steps and its the wrong one, then i'm screwed.

Thanks

Some of the tutorials around are either for region/carrier only (as with most US versions) or international by region. The software version is usually what gives away any further distinction, as carrier modifications call for another software version.

In your case, 9505/MH8 is the standard international release with software from Samsung. Here's the XDA thread with links to almost everything for the 9505: Frequently Asked Questions - xda-developers

Have the same problem. What did you do to fix it. My phone is the Canadian version I think the model number is I337M. Would like to either reroot it or just fix this problem with the font.
