That isn't a feature that's available on all phones, is it? I remember being annoyed that I couldn't change the dock icons on my Thunderbolt.
1) Click on the app drawer
2) Press the menu capacitive button
3) Press edit
4) Find the icon you want in your dock, press and hold as you drag it over the icon you wish to replace (in the dock).
5) Press the back capacitive button
It's not on all phones, it much depends on the UI and such. This is one of the features of Touchwiz 4.0.... cuz you couldn't do this on Touchwiz 3.0.
I thought I could do that on my Fascinate though.
I could be wrong, but i couldnt do it on my epic 4g running touchwiz 3.0
this is a horrid question but for the life of me i can't find it in the manual and i am getting frustrated....
how do i change the icons on the bottom of the screen? contacts and phone are redundant in my opinion....how do i switch one of them out for somethign else?

Sir or Madam, you are proof that no question on this forum is stupid. Even after setting these fixed icons, I did a hard reset and had to come back here to find out how to do it again.
I just tried this... when i hit the menu button and then edit i can edit the actual pages rather than the bottom bar...
If I try and follow the directions above on clicking on the menu bar at the bottom I activate what ever program is there.. IE: phone, contacts, messages..etc.
Thanks,

When you're on your home screen, press the blue icon that says "applications" first (lower right hand corner), and go into your app drawer. Then when you're in the app drawer, press the "menu" capacitive button. Then select edit there. At that point you can page through and find apps that you want in your dock, press and hold the icon, then drag it over top of the icon in the dock you wish to replace it with. Once the icon is in place, press the "back" capacitive button.
The applications icon in the dock cannot be replaced, it will always be there, the other 3 icons (phone, contacts, and messaging) can be replaced though.
Excellent!
Thank you.
I am a long running sense guy so this is almost like a completely new experience for me..lol!
