Some sort of media control. What happens if you press the "power off" button? I'd assume this would turn off whatever player app is producing this rather than turn off the phone, but it would seem worth a shot anyway.

I am now posting from a pc.
Press power off to blank screen, then power button just reloads same screen with that dumb peel remote stuck on top of the screen at the bottom of all the pages.
I had setup Peel Remote app to turn TV on and off and also my Sony AV amplifier. I woke up today to see it stuck at the screen base and you cant drag it or close it.
Perhaps I should uninstall the app. It is bundled with the phone from verizon, but I had updated the app.
It completely blocks the screen buttons at the bottom.

I rebooted phone galaxy s4 verizon, and it went away.
But never, IMO, should this happen. Plus used to be a control widget on the home screen which is now gone. And I think this app is very poorly written, but one of those promoted type apps.
It is called 'Peel Remote'. Looks like inside Peel Remote, you can control the TV etc..., but they also used to have some widget thing on the home page to also do that, which is now not loading which is probably a good thing, or I would downgrade and deconfigure the app..

I had updated the app just a few days ago using this play store, now revisiting that play store site, it claims it is 'not installed' and 'incompatible' with my galaxy s4.
HOWEVER, it is installed.
What gives?, I found out. They have like 10 different 'peel smart remote' apps on the play store. How confusing! How are you supposed to know which to use, etc... Pot Luck? Take a chance and see?

Sorry, I should have been clearer - I meant the "power off" button on the widget. But if it's Peel Smart Remote (a right POS app if ever there was one) then I guess that would just turn your TV off.
Force closing the app should get rid of the widget in that case. If the behaviour is new then I guess if you uninstall updates that might ensure it never comes back (make sure auto update is not enabled).
As for compatibility, I guess you have an earlier version than that in the Play Store. Count yourself lucky, because the Play Store app you showed an image of is notorious for adding extra adware lockscreens and crap like that.

That red power off button showing in the the widget turns the Sony AV amp on and off, not the widget itself. That dumb thing was securely stuck on the screen with no way I could find to get it off the screen.. the stuck widget was functional. It has yet to come back and show itself on the home screen.
Curious as to why it did that overnight.
OPPS!, posted too soon, IT IS BACK! and STUCK AGAIN. I will try to nuke it. Unless someone can talk to me about some setting in the app.
Well, not totally stuck as before, swiping the screen makes it fade into the background, but I dont like seeing it stuck on my homepage, it blocks things. I went into app settings, and dont see any options about that showing up on the home page. Plus it always is defaulting to the Sony, not the TV, the usefullness is just not there.
I can not comprehend how such an app gets such glowing reviews.
When I first set this up last week, it did not exhibit this behavior. Do apps just take over your phone making self changes to how they work or autoupdate without your prompting? (actually yes they do autoupdate)
Anyhow, at least it is not stuck anymore, swiping makes it go away.

I'll bet that Settings > Apps > Peel Remote > Force Stop would get rid of it.

Ditch the peel app and find something better. There are a boatload of remote control apps that don't cause this sort of problem. We see so many peel remote problems here that it's laughable (unless it's the one throwing widgets or lockscreen ads all over your phone.)

If you're looking for ir remote control you could try AnyMote. I liked the interface compared to others. They say it works with 900k devices, but it didn't work with the TV we have in our bedroom ... well, not completely. Basic channel and volume controls worked, but it couldn't turn the darn thing on or off. Every other device in our house works with it. To be fair, I have never found a remote app that will work with that TV.

That one does work to turn off and on the tv.
It does throw up add pages.
I need an app that can control 2 devices, maybe there is a free one?

I found sure remote, I was able to setup 3 devices, sofar not being limited..
And so far, no ads.

Watched their vid, and says can use this as mouse and keyboard which would be ideal as I use WMC on a PC to watch TV. But have not figured it out yet.
It discovers my 3 PC under the 'files' option, but then asks for user and password to login.
So the mouse function must be separate from that.
