This may have been done before but I haven't seen it mentioned here. Awhile back I stated that I enjoy buying Chinese budget devices simply to test hacks, Dev work, and whatnot on a device that is easy to replace in the event I mess things up. These devices usually don't support Google Play Store and the various apps like Google+ or Play Music, as they lack components needed for them to function, and most Android folks claim Google doesn't register these tablets as supported therefore making it impossible to install them.
WRONG! I browsed some things in XDA after figuring out why G+ wouldn't work. It claimed to be missing the 'Play Services Framework.apk' and an alarm went off in my head. 'Hmmm, perhaps this is why Play Store immediately crashes when you install Play Store.apk as well?'
So in XDA I found a Play Services.apk, side loaded it. No worky. G+ still gave the error about the missing component and Store crashed, as usual. Then I attempted to copy it into /system/app, and, since these cheap little paperweights are often rooted out of the box, that worked. But, changing permissions failed. Darn! That is needed isn't it? Well, I paid like $60 for it, just ignore the permissions thing, reboot and expect it to crash-loop. Well, it rebooted successfully, so I thought, why not try that also with Play Store.apk. copied to /system/app, reboot, now I get update notifications from the store. Launched it, hit accept, and try downloading a previously purchased app. It WORKED!!
It's stuck in pastel oversized land. But that's a problem for another day.
