Thanks for all the info, just wanted to say thanks to Raf and all the others who have posted such great info. I didn't update to 2.3.3 and still running 2.2.1 after reading a post by Rafael. I keep my data and Wi-Fi turned off to avoid and uninvited updates. I haven't found a thread that included any step by step instructions so I thought I'd post the following info.
Here is what I did for those out there who haven't gotten your paws wet (this is my 1st Android phone):
Install List (no particular order cuz I forgot to install SDK and .NET and did it later):
1. Install Android SDK
2. Install SuperOneClick
3. Install C771 Drivers
4. Install .NET Framework 2.0 (WinXP)
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Check off all 3 items to put phone in USB Debug Mode.
Also in Applications check off the Unknown sources.
Connect phone, click Root (SOC) and bam...Successfully Rooted!
Got rid of some of the Bloatware and phone boots up in under 40s (compared to over 1m previously) and works really smooth. Used Ti Backup and saved on backup SD card.
