Root Sucessfully partitioned SD card! . . . or so I thought

Hello all! :)

I successfully rooted my phone using the Poot method so I decided to do some more exploration of my phone's capabilities. :D I'd tried partitioning my 2 GB Micro SD card (Class 2) that came with my Kyocera Milano but was unsuccessful. So, I decided to do a little more research and to use a 8 GB Micro SDHC card (Class 2) that was sitting in my camera. And, voilà!, I was successfully able to partition my SDHC card. :D

The bad news: it lasted for all of a week. I suddenly started losing apps that were both on my SDHC card memory AND my internal memory. :( Every time I would shut off my phone and boot it, I would be missing more and more apps. At first, I thought it was because the card wasn't mounting properly and tried unmounts/remount via the settings menu and that did help me regain a few of the apps that were on the card but not the important ones. I tried physically removing the card and putting it back in (after very gently cleaning the contacts) but that didn't seem to work.

Then, I wondered if maybe I'd gotten a virus  (since I was losing internal apps also, like the PlayStore and Gmail) and decided to do a hard reset and start from scratch (all my important stuff backs up to my Google account so it’s just a minor inconvenience). I took out the card for the hard reset but once everything was reset, it didn't recognize the card at all. I tried downloading Link2SD card again but it kept giving me a "cannot create mount script error."

So, I decided to erase everything on the card via the settings menu and start over. The phone now only recognizes the card for picture storage. I cannot move any apps at all onto it--not even using the apps manager on the phone itself. I'm beginning to wonder if the card itself is beginning to die or if it’s how I set up the partition. Here are the steps I took to partition the card:

1. Used Mini Partition Wizard on my desktop (had tried Aparted but was unsuccessful).

2. Created a FAT32 partition first (as primary) as 20% of the card memory.

3. Created a ext2 partition second (as primary) as 80% of the card memory.

****I now realize that I had that backwards and a better percentage would have been 85/15****

4. Downloaded the Link2SD app and selected the ext2 as the secondary partition.

Another couple of things I'm wondering is if the card itself had anything to do with it. After doing some additional research I found that there is a difference between a Micro SD card and a Micro SDHC card and that some older technology can’t handle the Micro SDHC card. I also found some threads that indicated that a Class 6 card is best and both of the cards I tried are Class 2.

I’m trying to decide where to go from here. I’m wondering if I should try re-partitioning the SDHC card I already have and seeing if it works or if I should purchase a Class 6 Micro SD card instead and play around with that.

Any thoughts or suggestions? And thanks ahead of time! :)
