Suction Car Mount

I use the Rocket Fish mount. It is a universal mount, so I use an exacto knife to carve out the rubber grips a bit for a better fit. It comes with both a suction and vent mount.
 
I have the Exomount 2. My review detailing my experience with exchanging a defective unit is on Amazon. The ball joint was to tight and unusable when I received it. I loosened it but it would not tighten down enough. I had to pay over $7 for return shipping on a defective unit. The new one is fine as far as the ball joint is concerned and the suction cup is good. However the phone bounces and jiggles. The play is in the ball joint and not the suction cup.
 
Funny you ask, I have this iBolt coming in the mail at the moment. It should be here by Tuesday. My last dock is great, but this is more perfect for recording, and I love that it is built for the S3 alone.

They just came back in stock. They were out for a long time.

I have the exomount 2.

What I found is that it needs a completely flat, no ridges, nothing surface.

Otherwise the weight of the phone will eventually pull the backside off.

Went on a couple 6+ hour drives with it. I used the round circular sticky disc most mounts like for my tomtom GPS came with.

To prevent the phone from bobbing up and down I placed the phone so it touch the dash surface.
 
The mount works well with a commuter case, which is my primary case.

It does mount to a flat dashboard just fine. Mine has been on for weeks with temperature drops well below freezing.

I also have realized that the bounce is actually because that area of the dashboard flexes, it must not be glued down to anything. I had to remove the stock tray to fasten the mount.
 
the problem with most of these mounts is that they work for the phone WITHOUT a case on it. I ordered one from ebay and I couldnt use it because of my silicone case. Now I have an otterbox on my phone. I want a mount that can be somewhat adjusted for phones with cases. Any suggestions?

I just use an exacto knife to cut slits in the rubber grips. I use a Rocket Fish mount which is supposed to be universal. I find that by cutting slits in the rubber grips, it holds my phone much better. I don't use a case, but I believe the same technique can be used with a case or any phone for that matter. Likely a case will make the phone thicker. I have a thicker phone before and use this technique to shape the grips on my old mount according to the size of my thicker phone.

Does this fit phones with cases? Or do you have to mount it bare? Looks very interesting. Looks like this will protect the phone from accidental falls too.

On another note, I've been using one from some brand called Taotronics. Pretty basic mount but it has been working great and holds my phone with a case.

Yeah it can hold cases. I posted a video a few post down. I love it.

Your's looks cool to. It looks almost similar to mine.
 
Here's a question for those of you that park outside...maybe over night or at some location.

Do you leave your phone docks in place, or do you hide them in-case someone sees the dock and wants to break in.

I used to always hide my radar detector, then after awhile I got lazy and figured it was in fron of my house and started leaving it. Then of course someone broke in. Now I just remove all the hardware, but leave the window docks in place.

I'm afraid if I keep removing the docks, they will lose their strength. What do you guys do?
 
I've used and recommended the arkon mobile grip sticky dash mount before. When I had a car (ride a motorcycle now) I liked that I could put it on my dash and have it near the level of the air vent. I don't like things hanging from my windshield.

The Mobile Grip does work with a normal sized case. If you have big case you might want to use the holder in the second part of the video.

My girlfriend actually uses the side grip Arkon holder with a hard plastic / silicon skin case. She likes it a lot because she can press a button to make the arms pop open. I prefer the small footprint of the Mobile Grip.
 
If you want something that is compact and gives you the ability to charge as well

Get the Infuse 4G car dock by Samsung. The GS3 will fit in it without a case

This is what I use, and I have the Otterbox Defender. I have had zero problems. I will say, though, this is my second one. I had difficulty remembering how to position the thing and broke the first one within a week.
