Help Sudden and Severe Slowdown

TheKong

Newbie
Just got my phone a few days back. Galaxy Apollo I5800L

Still learning it, figuring it out. Haven't had any real issues, until a little while ago.

I went to check something on the phone, and noticed it was reacting very slow to anything I tried to do. Would take a long time to register i clicked on anything and after a minute or so it started to go idle on me. It just wasn't registering i was giving it any input.

I attempted to unlock the phone, swipe the window, and it wouldn't let me it would go idle before it would unlock.

I had no choice but to try and power off, and almost wasn't able to do that.

I do not have alot of things running, infact other than updates to Maps, Layar, Samsung Apps (which I removed because it wasn't offering me anything anyway), Trillian, Skype, Twitter (due to twidroid giving me a Rate Limit error), WeatherEye, SNesoid Lite, and Labyrinth.

Off these the only thing running at the time was Trillian.

At the time the phone had been on for 18-19 hours, was at around 60% battery remaining, wifi and gps were enabled.

The battery/phone was not warm but was running as if the CPU was at full load.

Anyone have any ideas or info? I can provide any info you think is relevant that may aid in providing me with some sort of answer or theory.

Any help is appreciated.

update many thing at the same time cost u a lot of CPU , also do the GPS and Wifi
I didn't do it all at once, at that point those updates were done the day before. The phone had been idle for most of the day other than the occasional use but did have wifi and gps running along with Trillian.

I was testing battery life and my wifi and data connection (to determine if/when my wifi may drop and data kick in), so batter was charged and phone was on a fresh boot. Then a little over 18 hours later the slowdown happened.

check your " running app" in your option and close some app
sometime , i listened to music , watched video , and when did i think those app was close , i saw them in "running app" the moment after i had closed them

so did the power off fix the lag? I just turn my phone off and on after every recharge

Yes, powered off the phone, started it back up and slowdown was gone.

Only apps running (under running services?) were...

Swype
Google (GTalkService)
Market (AlarmService)
DRM Protected Content Storage (OmaDrmConfigService)
SNS (SnsService)
Trillian

Same things running right now. Currently phone has been running for over 20 hours, has 90% battery charge on it, and its' running fine.

I would just love to know (if possible) what might cause hte phone to slow down so badly like that, if it's a normal thing, and how to avoid it.

what's firmware are you using ? , 2.1 or 2.2 ?
in 2.2 there's smt we call " lagfix" , maybe that's the one u are facing

My phone has been on for 142 hours and running, no slowdowns yet :P

Mind you, I don't use task killers. But to be honest, I've noticed a lot of glitches happening if you leave the phone on for a long duration.

It's 2.1, I may look to upgrading at some point, but for now I still have alot to figure out and learn.

I don't use task killers. If I have to stop an app I force stop with what the phone was already capable of, no 3rd party apps for it.

Currently same services running as listed above. Phone has been running without issue for over 36 hours and battery level is 60%. It's had some use since my last post. I'll let it charge later tonight.

New Information!

So again, same apps running, was on for...not sure quite a while. I went to use the phone, slow as hell. I was able to look around, no additional apps running, everything seemed fine, except Trillian was not online. I attempted to login and it couldn't. I disabled Wifi. Immediatley the phone sped up and went backto normal operation. Enabled Wifi, Trillian connected and everything is normal.

If thsi happens again, I'm gonna do some more testing. Is wifi working at all, will connectivity return over 3G with wifi enabled, and so on.

At this point I'm thinking it has something to do with Wifi or Trillian.

I haven't received any calls when the phone was like this, only twice it's done it so far, I'm starting to wonder if I CAN receive calls. Thats another thing I will test if/when this happens again.

So I've been running some tests, and the issue seems to be related to Wifi.

I had been running the phone with wifi sleep on, and other times where it wasn't set to sleep where wifi would remain connected at all times. Not sure if it was related to one of those settings or not.

Still testing to try and find exactly what the problem is, but I've been running with Wifi turned off last few days and only been using 3G. No problems what so ever.

Turning Wifi back on and will see what happens.

finally figured it out !
i've been facing the same prob as you , and i used task killer advanded .
and hell , there's music player , real player , YH messenger , etc.... even though i didn't use any of them
i killed them all , and my phone boosted up :D

That maybe what is happening on your end, but not on mine unfortunately.

The problem seems to be related to wifi on my end, specifically when I have it set so that Wifi remains connected regardless of phone state.

So this problem seems to only occur when I have Wifi sleep policy set to never. Wifi attempts to remain connected regardless of phone state.

It does however lose it's connection from time to time. When I wake the phone it at times loses the connection and immediately reconnects. This maybe related to my phone or the router.

Occasionally when it attempts to reconnect it fails and the phone seems to get stuck in some sort of loop.

I've been doing some light testing for days and it's not related to anything else.

Anyone have any ideas? Would love to resolve this.

Did more looking, and found what I think might be the real issue.

I've been having my wifi disconnect as usual from times due to phone going to sleep even though ti's not supposed to.

Happened again a few mins ago, did more looking and found the issue maybe ksoftirqd/0

CPU usage details for ksoftirqd/0:

User time:0s
System time:39m 50s
Total time:39m 50s
Starts:0

Seems to be using up alot of cpu.

Any ideas on what it is or why this may be happening?

I did some quick searches and found alot of complains about this, beginning to read now, but any info you provide will help me alot.
