Help Sudden decline in battery life

Hi,

Had my One X for a few months now. It's been flawless. I had been happy with the battery life since the first week. During my normal use which may be quite light compared to most, I would still have 60% or more left by late evening.

Then last week I dropped my One X in a supermarket carpark. From about waist height on to rough hard road surface. It landed face down and luckily it survived without a mark other than a bit of a gouge in the screen protector.

Since then though my battery has started draining really quickly. With about the same typical usage I'm down to 50% or less by lunchtime. It's really low by early evening.

Could this drop have caused this or is there something else going on?

Thanks.

Seems weird that a drop would cause an issue with battery life, but I don't suppose it's out of the question.

Have you installed any new apps since then, or have any apps updated?

Hi,
No, no new apps. Was just checking what services are running. Not even sure that it would have that much of an impact. Interestingly Phandroid service is always running. Even after I stop it and restart the phone its there running again. Same with google currents. If I stop that service running next time I look its running again. So I just uninstalled it. Google maps has two instances of services running. Same thing with those. One must be because location services are running, don't know about the other. These services are only using a couple of % when I check power usage.

Puzzling.

Interesting you mention Phandroid, I noticed much the same, turned off the service within the app on Thursday and my battery life is much better.

Do you have the old app with the forums tacked on or just the app which gives you news?

Let me know and I'll pass it on to the dev.

Hey El Pres,

Not sure of the version. Start the app and you get the page with the 6 icons. News, Forum, chat, Apps, Search and Profile.

Hadn't realised about the service within the app. Just went to preferences and saw the auto sync was checked in the news section. I disabled it, never use the new section anyway.
I'll see if it helps. I suspect not though because I have been using the phandroid app for ages.
I guess its possible the battery life issue starting and dropping the phone is a coincidence.

I did the battery test with the service tools you get when dialing *#*#3424#*#*. It takes a full hour to run the test and it passed that ok.

Thanks.

Using the cam on my One X is switching the display's Auto Brightness to manual 100% sometimes.
Then the display drains the battery.

Update:

So I charged the phone to 100% last night before going to sleep around midnight. This morning around 9:00am I checked the One X. It was down to 41%. Usually it would be 90+% just leaving it idle.
Had a quick look at what apps where running. Interestingly Phandroid was running again even though I had stopped it previously.
Within less tha 5 minutes battery had dropped to 30%.

I'm going to keep checking but something's not right here.

Final update.

Well yesterday I had to recharge mid-afternoon after starting the day with a full charge. I charged it to around 45% to keep me going util I got home. At home I checked a few setting trying to find why the phone was discharging so rapidly. It had always been really good. After no more than 2 or 3 minutes it dropped another 10%. I made a quick call to which there was no answer and lost another 10%.

I decided that tonight I would backup everything and try a factory reset. I started the day about 7:30am with 100%. Made a few calls, checked a few emails and noticed at mid morning 8 was still on 90%. Made a couple more short calls, 1/2 dozen email notifications and checked the emails. It's now 6:20pm and I have 72% showing.

Checked running apps and eveething pretty much as was.

Guess it didn't like the threat of a factory reset!

I have no idea why it just started behaving itself again. The drop that seemed to trigger this I suspect caused the issue. Given I was close to getting a divorcee from it I'm just happy to be falling back in love with my One X again.
