Help Sudden MAJOR battery problems! Help please!

So this is weird. And incredibly annoying.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S GTi9003 which I've had for about a year. The battery was never brilliant but it lasted me about a day and a half without needing to be recharged. Ok, par for the course for this phone.

A couple of weeks ago I went overseas (from Italy to Greece) for a week or so. I had roaming activated in Greece. All of a sudden the battery began to die after just a few hours. The level plummeted.

I returned to Italy and turned off the roaming and the battery improved very slightly but now, in airplane mode, the battery lasts perhaps 7 hours. Rubbish, in other words.

I did a factory reset and updated to the latest firmware (2.3.6 Gingerbread XWLF2) but nothing changes.

The battery is about 1 year old. Is it completely buggered or is something wrong? To me, because it happened so suddenly, it seems like there's an issue here.

I've tried all sorts of stuff: turning off wifi, data sync and so on but nothing makes any difference.

I'd appreciate any ideas here - even to the extent of getting a new battery if this one is buggered.

Actually that sounds pretty good for a Galaxy S. I could never get more than a day. Although actual battery life will vary with usage patterns.

Seems to me very much like your current battery is finished. A bit premature though, only one year. Sudden battery failure can happen though. I suggest that you try replacing it, new Galaxy S batteries are not expensive.

Well, brand new battery, fully charged... empty within 5 hours!

There's something definitely wrong with this bloody phone!
