Help Sudden surge in data usage - HELP !

desboro

Newbie
Had my DHD since November and have used 3g watchdog to track my data usage.

I average around 3/4 MB a day and have barely gone close to even 50% of my monthly quota since owning the phone.

However, on Monday i used 64mb, Tuesday i somehow used 190mb and i`m currently on 104mb for today. I havent change any settings or done anything different than i usually do on the phone. Ive used more in the last 3 days than i did the whole of June and more just on Tuesday than in the whole of May

Could someone give me an idea as to what may be causing me to use so much data in the past 3 days when my usage and settings are the same as when i was only using 3/4mb a day. If this carries on i`ll be way over my monthly allowance and i`ll start getting charged, which is not what i want to do.

Any help, much appreciated.

Stuart.

Nope dont use navigation or maps.

Ive just downloaded that app so i`ll see what it comes up with tomorrow, thanks.

Well it appears Twitter has used 3.1 GB which is loads more than anything else. Think i need to look at the settings.

I turned off mobile data this morning for a few hours then turned it back on and within a few minutes Twitter had used 6.5mb.

I had auto refresh on and refresh every 5 minutes set as i was taking advantage of finally having proper Twitter notifications. Looks like i`m going to have to sacrifice have regular notifications just to keep my data usage under control and i`ll just refresh myself when i open the app.

Ive changed it to refresh only every hour now but i suspect it`ll still rinse my usage so i`ll probably just turn auto refresh off altogether as i need to have mobile data on really for my emails.

Kind of makes having Twitter notification a bit pointless now but hey ho.

Never used twitter, but like FB, can you set it up so that it emails you when someone responds to a tweet/someone you're following tweets?

That way, you can turn off twitter notifications, and still get emails notifications?

Do you leave your mobile network on all day? I have my Twitter app set to refresh every 15minutes i think and it barely uses any data at all. This is on top of the fact that i only turn on the mobile network when ive got nothing else to do or just every now and then to check mail and whatnot. Maybe you should try that? Have it refresh as much as you want but use your mobile network less?

Of course if you need e-mail and all that updating regularly then do as El Presidente says.

I think you can make it notify you via text message as well, this would also drastically reduce mobile data usage.
