Suddenly no data except wifi

i just know this is a setting but I sure can't find it. When out on the road no matter how many bars it gets no internet server. Texts on the Verizon app and calls work as normal. Duhhhhh as Homer Simpson says, What happened.?

I could be a couple of things. I am going to assume you have a Verizon account since you mention the app. Verizon uses a CDMA network for voice and text messages. LTE is for data which requires a sim card. Your sim could have gone bad (they do that, but it's not that common). Verizon could have changed the APN settings for your account, but again, unlikely. Possibly the LTE radio went bad.

The could have also blacklisted you because of cancellation, non-payment or reporting the phone stolen or lost. That's probably not it because your voice wouldn't work either in that case.

Have you tried rebooting the phone? IF a reboot doesn't work, maybe a reset might, but that's a little drastic. You could check with Verizon, too to see if there is an outage in your area.

Pull down the drop down menu and tap on the signal bars. You should see a toggle for Mobile Data. Check if it is turned on.

That's not for the Droid Maxx, which remains stuck on KitKat. I'll start mine up in a bit and see if I can post a few screenshots later.

To follow up Jfalls63, go into the settings app and then data usage. Here are screenshots of that plus what you see when you tap the menu control top right.

So, you want Mobile Data turned on, and maybe make sure that the settings in the overflow menu match this.

If this doesn't help, you could try going to a Verizon store and ask for a new SIM card. They will provide one for free. Since you are getting calls and text messages, I doubt that it's the SIM card that's an issue, though it won't hurt to rule it out.
