Suggest a good basic SMS/MMS app. Go SMS is too spammy.

The stock SMS/MMS app on my Triumph has not been working well, so I installed and have been using Go SMS Pro. However, I have found that occasionally, I am getting spammy fake SMS messages from “GO SMS TEAM” containing various advertisements and “tips”. DR Web is unable to block them, leading me to suspect that they are being generated within the app, rather than being sent as genuine SMS messages.

In any event, I am finding them to be very annoying and disruptive, and it appears that the only way to get rid of them will be to switch to a different SMS/MMS app.

I don't need or want anything fancy or overly sophisticated; just the ability to send and receive basic SMS/MMS messages about as well as the stock app would do if it worked.

Anyone have any recommendations for an SMS/MMS app that might be to my liking?

If you had bothered to look around you would have found a recommendation for the free app 'MySMS'! Works across all major mobile OSs. Free SMS-ing to others with MySMS, defaulting to mobile data – not texts! – when out of range of WiFi, etc.

But the clincher – for me – is the fact that you can send, receive, compose and attach-to MySMS messages from your laptop or desktop, with the convenience of a big screen and a fullsize keyboard! And you can keep your phone in your pocket*! With the free MySMS desktop application for Windows, OSX, or Linux! Or from any web browser if you're not on your own machine! Super convenient!

*Of course on my phone I can dictate my SMS messages too. So I also have the option of using NO keyboard and screen, neither small nor large! Perfect for in the car or when you're otherwise en-route!

Other popular SMS clients include Handcent, Chomp and Pansi. All have slightly different looks, largely similar features.

Although I have to question the source of your text messages. I've been using GoSMS for nearly a year and I don't think I've ever received a txt from them.

Both of them from GO SMS TEAM

I too am a long time GoSMS user.

+1 confirmed GoSMS spam.

Same messages as above ^^

The spam is annoying.

I can confirm receiving these as well. They don't really bother me as they don't happen that frequently, and I can easily delete them if I want.

SMS/MMS is the one function on my phone that I allow to interrupt me. If my phone vibrates, I assume it's a text message of some urgency. I normally only give my number to people who know my work schedule and who know better than to interrupt me at work unless it's for an important reason.

It is unacceptable for stupid advertisements,

Well I still haven't seen them but that is irrelevant. The ads probably are not coming through SMS but the GoChat feature. Some other have suggested the following - MENU > SETTINGS > ADVANCED > APPLICATION SETTINGS > RUNNING MODE > Select LITE or NORMAL.

Another solution of course might be actually contacting the developers for information.

I uninstalled Go Contacts EX & Go SMS because of the spam. It's a shame because they were excellent apps up until the spam started.

I liked handcent sms but it killed my battery by keeping my phone awake. Currently using Pansi which is much better in that respect & still has all the features I used in handcent.

The key is to find an old version of Go Sms and STOP UPDATING it! My version is 4.37 before pic links and all that spam. The apk can be found on Google.

Well, I set Go SMS to Normal mode and is yet to receive spam for the past three days. Was using Pansi the past three days and while I do like it a lot, I found a feature missing: Go SMS is able to split a group message to multiple threads per receiver. Pansi can't. At least I can't find out how.
