Suggestions for podcasts - in particular chopping them

Hi there,

So I've dumped by iPhone and got myself a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. On the whole very pleased so far. However the one issue I'm having trouble with is replicating some of the iTunes podcast experience.

In particular I love with iTunes:

  • That it remembers what you've watched, then feeds new podcasts to your phone once you sync.
  • And (this one is really important to me) I set start and end times, so when I'm in the car the podcasts just play without all the associated crap at beginning and end!
Is anyone aware of an app or PC software or some combination that would achieve the second point? The first would also be very beneficial.

I would like to dump iTunes completely, but really I'm open to any suggestions on achieving the above.

Many thanks!

Not sure if this will address either issue you are having, but I found that when I switched from iOS to android that the best (and in my opinion superior) solution to my podcast needs was Doggcatcher.

Initially you need to set it up with your feeds, but once that is done it does everything else for you including remembering positioning. I'm not sure about the start & end time editing, but the developer is very helpful and if it doesn't have that feature now, you could always shoot him a request to add it or similar for a future release.

Also, if syncing with iTunes is still necessary, JRT Studios has some nice utilities to keep things in sync between the phone and iTunes. There's Doubletwist too, but I haven't had luck with it myself, maybe you'll have better results.

hth...

Thanks. Yeah I head good things about DoggCatcher - haven't tried it yet. I do think it's not going to be possible to do the trim thing... at least not on anything currently out there. I may have to manually chop the MP3 files.

Have explored Miro, DoubleTwist and WinAMP for general music and stuff syncing. I think DoubleTwist is looking the best overall.

If I can just sort out the podcast thing. :)
