Root SuperOneClick question

Is SuperOneClick still used, or is it possibly replaced by something else?
Does it work with Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G international (i9305)?

Where could I get it?
The downloads I've found this far are downloaders that download and install a lot of other stuff EXCEPT SuperOneClick.
(SpeedyPC Pro, SpeedUpMyComputer, AppsHat,... I guess I managed to deny some others.)

Is that a good replacement for kies3?
I'd like to be able to move around pictures SMSs, phonebook, ..., but also back up the firmware in case I'll put some ROM in there. Easy rooting is welcome too.

Is SuperOneClick still used
There's no single app called Super One Click - almost any app that roots the phone with one click is being called (and has been called for a while) Super One Click.

The downloads I've found this far are downloaders that download and install a lot of other stuff EXCEPT SuperOneClick.
Super One Click doesn't get installed, it installs su, busybox and an app that su can use to communicate with you.

Is that a good replacement for kies3?
Kies is Samsung's attempt to make it easier for people to transfer media to and from the phone, it has nothing to do with rooting. Or "easier". Or "working", for that matter. Copy files to and from an Android phone like you would to and from any Linux computer. By hand.

I'd like to be able to move around pictures
Use your computer.

Back them up, yes. Move them? Not with most SMS apps.

phonebook
Nope. Use Google Contacts as a backup.

also back up the firmware
Then you'll need a custom recovery to do a nandroid backup. (Backup the Android NAND memory, which is basically the whole phone.)

Easy rooting is welcome too.
Easy is a relative term. Put su and busybox in /system/bin and you're rooted. If you don't know how to do that easily, depend on someone else writing a "Super One Click" that will do it - and not email him your bank account login and password.

I was talking about this:
[APP]SuperOneClick v2.3.3 - Motorola Exploit Added! - xda-developers

Back them up, yes. Move them? Not with most SMS apps
Kies seemed to be able to "restore" the stuff from my old Nokia6300 backup into
my new S3. All SMSs are there as if sent/received with S3.
I've just heard so much not-so-flattering stuff about kies.

Then you'll need a custom recovery to do a nandroid backup. (Backup the Android NAND memory, which is basically the whole phone.
Hmm, have to keep looking for that...
(so no simple replacing of vmlinuz and initrd kind of images?)

Put su and busybox in /system/bin and you're rooted.
Is it hard to put the stuff there? I take it that the file system root ('/') (or root partition) needs to be flashed? Maybe more? I wonder if it's on the same flash file system as the user files? I guess they survive the change of the battery?
Or why the fuss about rooting?
