SuperUser file not showing up in TWRP

I'm in the middle of rooting, I flashed the TWRP recovery. The tutorial says to drag the superuser file onto my galaxy nexus storage, so I dragged and dropped the file onto the galaxy nexus drive on my mac. I went into fastboot mode, than went into recovery mode. I went into TWRP and clicked install like the tutorial said, but the superuser file never appears for me to click on! how come I can see it on my computer when I look at my gnex drive thing but it doesn't appear on TWRP thing? I've been trying to root my phone for half a day and its just giving me so many problems. I though this was going to be easy.

Can you see the SU zip when using a file explorer on the phone?
Id just download it using the phone's browser instead of the Mac and it will be in the /downloads folder

I cant download it directly off my phone because when I connect to wifi and go into my google account it says couldnt establish secure connection. I think its saying this because I don't have a recovery yet?
This is one thing I noticed:
If you could please click this video, and pause at 13:05, where it says the list of files on his phone. When I do this, that list never comes up. All that comes up is:
.
..
0
legacy
obb
TWRP
Why don't I get the same list as that guy? Why isn't this working! Its been 12 hours and my phone still isn't rooted.

Not sure how I did it, but I got the recovery thing to work and i found the superuser file and I am now officially rooted! Thanks to everyone who helped! you guys are great.
