Hey guys,

I didn’t know where to post this, so if this is the wrong place: Mods, can you please guide me to the correct forum. Also… Chances are that my question may be frowned upon, so if I offend anyone, I apologize :)

So, I have a Droid Razr (XT912) that I'm using on Verizon. I have no issues with the phone.

My problem is with the Verizon plan. I got this plan about 3 years ago. At the time my GF was working for Best Buy. She was offered an employee account, but since she was on a family plan already, she extended the offer to me and I signed up.

She has now left Best Buy for another job, and a couple of days ago, Verizon texted me a “VZW Agent Employee MTN Verification - HGC” survey which I have to fill and send back ASAP. It has questions like:

Please provide the name of the local agent/retailer you are employed with.
Who is your Verizon Wireless Account Manager? Etc.

Even though it’s on “surveymonkey.com,” the survey looks legitimate. At least, to me it does. What can I do about this? If someone could help me, I would appreciate it so much!

I’m looking at other comparable plans in the meantime, but they’re more than twice as expensive :(

Thanks,

Oz

Hey Oz,

Verizon recently announced they were starting an employer discount audit of their system. This could be related to that.

But it could also be a scam, set up by someone who is using the news to phish for info. I would call Verizon about it to make sure it's legit before doing anything.

If it is legit I'm afraid the days of the best buy discount are numbered for you. :( sorry for the bad news.

Am I Eligible for Special Discounts?

If you're a Postpay customer, you may be eligible for a discount if you are and remain affiliated with an organization that has an agreement with us. Unless your discount is through a government employee discount program, we may share certain information about your Service (including your name, your wireless telephone number and your total monthly charges) with your organization from time to time to make sure you're still eligible. We may adjust or remove your discount according to your organization's agreement with us, and remove your discount if your eligibility ends or your contract term expires. In any case, this won't be considered to have a material adverse effect on you.

VZW has the right to contact your employer and see if you are still an employee If not, they will remove it.

Very true, but nothing about the upcoming verifications that I've seen has mentioned SurveyMonkey. Anyone can set up an account on SurveyMonkey and spam it out to numbers in the hopes that they find a few with an employee discount.

Personally, I would call Verizon and tell them about the text and ask if it's legit. If they say it is, tell them your GF is no longer employed with Best Buy. My understanding is that Verizon employees are placed on special plans (vs. having a discount applied to a regular plan) in some cases, and it would suck to have your plan suddenly pulled out from under you and have to sort that out. Better to be a bit proactive about it. BUT, if they don't ask, don't tell. =)
