Switch GMAIL from IMAP to POP3

I just recently switched from Iphone to the Samsung Galaxy S2. So far, I'm loving it.

One thing that I want to do is set up my gmail account to POP3 instead of IMAP. Is there a way to change the default setting for gmail in android?

I do this since I have a desktop at home constantly pulling down my e-mails and leaving them on the server for a day so my phone can get them. By doing this, I can keep a copy on my phone for quick access when needed (works great for saving shipping information, etc).

Thanks in advance.

When I changed Gmail to pop3, the Gmail app just worked without doing anything. But I use the stock email app for several accounts including Gmail so I have everything in one place.

Did you manually change the settings (if so, how?) or did you remove the gmail account from the e-mail options and create a new POP3 gmail account manually?

Thanks

If you open your gmail account via a PC, click the little cog in the top right corner then select mail settings. One of the tabs is called "Forwarding and POP/IMAP", you should be able to configure it to your requirements there. The phone should pick these settings up automatically.

I also got a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I have been trying for days now to set up my gmail via POP3 - no success. What setting do I need under "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" in order to get this to work (currently is is set so that only POP3 is enabled). Thanks!
