Switch off text sound

My default notification sound is set to"none" but every time I receive a text message, I get an annoying tone. Could someone supply a solution?

Set the notification to "none" in the Messages app settings.

However....I now get literally no notification when a text message is received. I want to return the ideal position(for me) of getting a visual notification on the screen, but no sound.

Don't turn off the notifications in the app settings, just set the notification sound to "none".

Thanks for that, but as I mentioned in my initial post, it doesn't work for me. A chime sounds, despite the sound being set to "none".

Perhaps there is another app that is playing the sound when it is triggered. You have it turned off in one app but the other app is still responding?

What texting app are you using?

Android Messaging and WhatsApp. That could be something I've overlooked.
