Switching between 2 phones on one line

A friend had given me a Droid RAZR a while back and I would like to be able to switch between it and my S3 to try to prolong the S3s life (spend a lot of time outside).

My question is what is the process to get the Razr active on my line? Do I simply swap in my 4G sim card or do I need to activate the Razr to my line as if I were replacing my S3?

TIA

Yes, swapping cards should be all that's required. However there is a limit of how many times within a certain time period you can do this iirc.

I'm not sure how many times you can do it. But I swapped with my girlfriend (different accounts) all we did was swap sim cards and they activated without doing anything.

I thought the issue was going from 4G to 3G and back. Had to do it within 24 hours or you needed to get a new SIM card... Hadn't heard of a limit on switching between 4G phones.

The reason I asked was because I tried just putting my SIM card in the Razr and it fired up fine, but after a few minutes dropped connection. My friend was having issues with dropping signal, but we weren't sure if it was hardware or location dependent. Might just be a bad phone...

Thanks.

Just swapping cards sometimes works, and sometimes it does not.
I recently tried to do that with two of my phones on the same account, and it did not work.
It also seems to me that I read awhile back that if you have two phones connected to the same line/number, that there is a minimal additional monthly charge to the account.
You might want to speak with VZW customer service to get the details.

I have switched phones often on my line, and I usually start by going to VZW online, logging in to my account, and using their switch device wizard. You enter the ESN of the new phone, and the SIM card number and then power down current phone, remove sim and put it in the phone you want to use. Power up the new device, and it should work.

Do you do this every time you switch, or is it a one time thing to recognize the new phone on the line?
