Switching From iPhone....Finally!

Newbie
Hey all, I finally made the decision to switch from iPhone (currently have the 5) to Android! I have narrowed it down really to two phones and would like some opinions.

First I have AT&T and am eligible for an upgrade so I would have to stick with that carrier/selection of phones.

Two phones I have been looking at...

HTC M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

I am kind of leaning on the S5, would like to have some input on this phone, but I am not fully commited to it.. Would like some pro's and con's!

Use the phone for, mainly web browsing, pics (car shows/outdoors), texting on screen keyboard MUST be good and have a good layout/autocorrect, and BATTERY is high on my list.

Those are both great phones, but if battery is high on your list the S5 would win out because of its removable battery. That would allow you to carry a spare or buy a larger aftermarket battery.

As to keyboards, with Android you can install third party keyboards. Most people seem to use Swiftkey, so I wouldn't really worry about the on-screen keyboard. You'll have flexibility.

FWIW, I have the S4 and ruled out the prior HTC One because it didn't have either a removable battery or MicroSD. The new HTC took care of one of those deficiencies, but I've been very happy with my S4, and the wife has been very happy with hers (and she is a bit harder to make happy).

hi and welcome to AF and Android

I like the look of the M8. and the front stereo speakers.

the S5 is water-resistant. and have removable battery.

the camera on the M8 is questionable .. totally new concept and not sure if it is an improvement.
till I see more real reviews from more users.

The S5 seems to be my choice. Are there any other phones out there that would rival the s5 or it it pretty much top dog right now

For most things you mention they will be equal, battery life is looking great on both but the Galaxy S5 has removable battery so you could carry a spare and make it last twice as long.

If you take allot of pictures the Galaxy S5 has the superior camera, this is one area where they are not comparable at all.

Both devices offer some protection from water, but the Galaxy S5 is better protected.
