Switching from iPhone to android, questions about screen lifespan.

Finally got fed up with apple after the iPhone 5; what a joke.

I was looking into the galaxy s3 but I've read numerous things about the amoled screens having a much shorter life of certain colors than LCD screens.

I tend to keep my phones for years and give them to my kids or mother. I gave my old iohone 3GS to my mother and the screen is fine.

I've seen original galaxy s phones with colors completely changed. What's the deal with the s3 screen? Maybe I can replace the screen in the future if this happens?

Can't say that I have ever heard of this problem. I would say you will be fine with the screen years down the road. Unless you have like water damage.

If this is your biggest problem, I would say you don't have much to worry about.

Really? I even read a statement from Samsung saying that the green pixels die like 10x as fast and so the color will be all unbalanced in 2 years.

I've seen the original galaxy Suffer this problem.

And yeah it's my only concern otherwise I'm ready to
Switch :))

I can honestly I've not heard of nor experienced any of this. Same on my wife, brother and father-in-laws GS3's...

Ive owned all 3 galaxy s phones, didnt have burn in or any discoloration on any of the phones. lcd screens last more than 20 years, really in the terms of how long phones last, you wont have a problem with it

I actually have it already... i can see the keypad when the screen is white :(

Ghosting or burn in? Two very different things. What you are describing sounds like a ghosting issue I heard about via one of my podcasts. It's specific to just the keyboard and you have to go to an all white screen or app to see it. It also seems to happen on very few phones. May have been specific enough for one batch? I don't recall exactly what was said (this was an Android Police podcast a couple weeks ago), which is why I am asking if it is ghosting.
Does your keyboard outline show up on other apps with white backgrounds (like this forum, for instance?)

It is possible on any LED screen. But, if you are worried and making a decision about something that MAY or may not happen years from now, then I wouldn't buy anything. I mean, in 2 to 5 years, you could get the phone wet, drop it, lose it, crack the screen, brick it, have a dog eat it?

I wouldn't base your decision on the lifespan.........

Yikes, that is way down on my list.

The lifespan of the screen is certainly going to outlast the usefulness of the phone itself.

As a point of reference, my Samsung Omnia 2 with OLED screen *never* had an issue, but finally upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3.... Never looked back :)

You nailed it...I can see the keyboard when I run anything with a light background. So, I guess it's ghosting then.

I've been in these cell phone forums for years and have ever heard of this on this type of screen before. if there is a lifespan and i am sure there is, it must be 10+ years out and let's face it the phone will long be history before that time frame. This is like one of the more advanced types of screens. i doubt seriously it has this kind of issue.

I just wanted to agree with everyone here saying that there is nothing to worry a out. Android screens are made well.

I do know about the Ghosting though, I have that issue with my Blackberry 9930. I keep the Clock on while it is charging all night and it has gotten 'burned into' the screen. It, however, is only noticeable when I am on a solid color screen.
