Switching providers and SIM card

Hello and thanks in advance,

I need to switch provider so I will switch SIM cards. I have always saved my contacts on the SIM (just in case I lose the phone) so now I have imported my contacts on the phone (with the intent of exporting them back to the NEW SIM.

However I was reading that, upon inserting the new SIM the phone will reset and I will loose all my contacts. Is that true?

I will switch tomorrow so if anyone can help it would be great :(

Thanks !

I don't think that the switch of SIMs will clear your phone contacts, just have to set the phone's Google account again, but I'm not sure.

So, if you don't want to copy your contacts to Google contacts then you could export the phone contacts to your SD card.
After export you'll find the export file as .vcf on the root of your SD card.
The export file you can import again to the phone contacts and to your new SIM.
Export and import option are in the people app.

Thank you again for your time.

I did that SD card backup already (just in case).

Just a curiosity, I seem to be able to sync contacts from Google to the smartphone (I see the newest additions there) but from the gmail interface I was unable to import contacts from the phone.

Do you know how?

Not from Gmail interface, you should do it from the People interface, Manage contacts, Copy ...
you should able to copy your phone contacts to Google.

I didn't copy my contacts to Google, so, I didn't that last copy step ;) but I see it in my People interface :)

If the contacts on Google then they'll automatically synct with the phone's Google contacts by default :)

The "people" interface? What is the "people" interface? I am assuming the "contacts" interface (not gmail interface) so I went there and I did not find the options you mentioned.

Can you help?

I mean the contacts of the dialer, on HTC phones it's named People interface.

But there may not be all copy/import/export options on Android versions below 4, or it's just a HTC Sense thing?

An other way: You've that export of contact on your SD card, haven't you? Copy it to the PC, open your Google account on PC and import the contacts's file in the Google address book.
Now you can be sure that the contacts are on Google and will be synct to Googles contacts on your phone :)
