Switching to Galaxy S5 from iPhone 5

Someone please give me a few reasons to switch. All I know is the iPhone since it come out but the Galaxy S5 is so attractive and does so much more. Any opinion welcome.

if you're coming from iOS 7 to Android, the Galaxy S5 would seem to be just the fit for you, of course it does not win me over as i cannot stand the UI on either one.

Of course, if iOS 7 is part of the problem, part of what made you consider a Samsung product, i would suggest looking at either the S4, or Note series. the UI on them is more like the familar iOS versions, which is great for people like myself who grew up on Apple but couldn't take Jony Ive's rendition of it.

The S4 and S5 are roughly the same with only a few design cue differences. the screen size isn't that different, they're both fast, but it would boil down to whether you like flat, pastel colors and flat icons, or prefer the older skeuomorphic approach that iPhone used for years.

Samsung has a PC software called Kies which had an option to restore data from an iPhone backup, so basically just use iTunes to backup your phone, then use Kies to restore that backup onto your S5.

@nick have you found a TW theme yet for Nova? I found one that actually looks good with HD icons, and I'm using it now.

My stance has always been - do you like what you have? If yes, no need to change. If not, ask yourself what you're missing that you want, and then find a phone that offers it.

It's already been pointed out that you can use Kies for some limited migration from iOS to Android (Samsung). Here's the download link for that:

Kies | SUPPORT | SAMSUNG

You'll also want to consider Doubletwist, a perpetual favorite of those who migrate from iOS to Android. It gives you some of the familiarity of iTunes and migrates your music over for you, allowing you to adjust at your own pace. It also supports a lot of Apple's ecosystem (Airplay, for example).

Android App - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doubleTwist.androidPlayer

If you decide to switch make sure to turn your imessages off and sign out of your apple Id otherwise you might have issues rec SMS from iPhone users on the android!

Without knowing more about you and how you use your phone it's difficult to answer, sure I can list specifications and features but nothing you can't get from using Google.

Could you expand a little on the features of the Galaxy S5 you find attractive and why? That would at least give us somewhere to start. :D

My main problem with the iPhone is the screen size. It's too small..and the restrictions iOS put on people...ie: not allowing to download music from anywhere other than iTunes etc.

I think it's fair to say that most Android devices address these issues, none of which are really unique to the Galaxy S5.

But he Galaxy S5 does have one of the best displays available right now, at 5.1" it should be more than big enough.

Obviously with Android you can download music from anywhere you want and copy the them onto your phone or microsd card, or use a service like Play Music and stream your music.

You just gave yourself two reasons. The Galaxy S5 has a larger screen and you can just move any music files you have to an Android phone without needing or being restricted to iTunes.

Why do you need more reasons? What is stopping you right now?

It's still a hard decision when you're used to a system for so long. iOS is all I know. I've been with the iPhone since conception. It's a big move for me and an emotional one!

the Galaxy S5 has a UI that takes a lot of cues from iOS 7 (my tablet got the kitkat update and has it) so i do not see any issues there if you know iOS 7.

i used to be all Apple and hated Android. the one maker who changed all of that? Samsung :)

I can understand that. If the iOS is working well for you and there really isn't anything Android has that you really need, I would recommend you stay with iOS. Rumour has it that the next iPhones will have a larger screen, so that would address the screen size issue you have.

Regarding downloading music from other sources, I don't see that as an issue. My wife uses and iPhone and I can put songs on her iPhone from various different sources. I recently purchased music from the HMV web site and I didn't have any issues putting those songs onto her iPhone.

What are some of the other restrictions you don't like about iOS. Perhaps there is an iOS solution for them as well.

If you don't like the ui from the s5, most people suffice with a different launcher.

This is just another reason to go to android. You can make android look like iOS if you wanted. I personally have my touchwiz looking like vanilla android as I don't like the s5 ui either.
