Swype for Android

Hi everyone,

Please bear with me as I am rather dumb when it comes to Smartphones. I have an Android Galaxy Nexus v.4.2.2

I am trying to download Swype beta and install it, but it keeps saying I do not have an Android browser. I then change it to mobile, and it still won't let me.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Bert

Have you been into setting, security and checked the box that says allow unknown sources?
If that's not the problem what error message are you getting?

Thanks Steve,

Yes, I did check that box. I have also added Firefox, hoping it would work, but I get the same error message:

Sorry! This is not an Android device.

It appears you're not using an Android device, so you cannot download the Swype Beta Installer.

I think the I.E. is the default browser. I get to the right place where I can choose desktop but I can't choose Mobile.

Android 4.2.2 has a 'swype' style keyboard built in by default (try it :)).

However It seems multiple people have been having problems installing the swype beta. I'll see if I can find a clear workaround.

I'm assuming you've tried the stock browser and chrome?

Try this link: http://swypemedia.swype.com/beta-d1/media/installer/Swype-Installer-2.0.apk it's a direct link to the [installer]apk from swype's website. (<<that is not the actual keyboard, but the app that will download and install the keyboard after you login with your beta user account)

Never noticed that. Not too bad. Would be nice to comepare though. Not sure why they have to make it so difficult. Thanks.

Thanks sdrawkcab25,

Wow, everything is confusing, :) I downloaded the apk file, but I don't know how to use it. Then it seemed as though I could hardly find posts as there were ads everywhere. Went to PayPal to become a paid member but it didn't automatically put the recipient of the payee in. Now the ads seem to be gone.

I just don't think it is worth your time trying to help me. :)

Should just download the file to your phone and when you open it, it will ask you to install it.
