If I move it to the SD card I have to turn it back on each time I switch on the phone.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Some apps you have to keep on the phone. I imagine all the keyboards need to be installed on the phone.

Dialer is another one that needs to stay installed on the phone.

I'm sure there are others...

BookLover is correct in that Swype is considered a system application. I don't have Froyo yet (no great hurry) but I expect it would be true of all system apps that they must stay in the main memory rather than the external SD card.
