sync android with google calendar

I can get the google calendar to copy to the phone, but not the phone calendar to sync with the google calendar.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure. I'm new to the phone and calendar.
Where do I start?

Go to menu>settings>accounts & sync and first make sure the account is listed. then tap on the account and make sure sync is enabled for the calendar.
