Sync file size

When I sync through the HTC sync manager there is a little scale on the screen that shows I'm using 1.03/1.89 Gb
But the vast majority of this is music files, and these only add up to about 300mb on my PC.
Also, the size seems to increase each time I sync, even though I'm not adding much if anything.
What's happening?
Will it keep on growing, and where is it on the HTC (One V)?

Some songs seem to sync twice into two different folders;
One is the SDcard\music folder, which is where most of the music is and should be.
Another is sdcard\mobile\music and this seems to be where the dupicates sit.

This doesn't account for all the excess file size though.

None of this is under my control. Sync Manager seems to be in charge of this and there is no setting that I know of to control it.

I've stopped the ever growing file size ( and halved it) by removing one of the folders. It doesn't seem to have recreated itself. But the music size reported is still much bigger than the size of the folder on my PC, so still using a significant amount of the reported available space.
